Hello, my name is Abiola or Abi for short and I’m a registered Social Worker. I have a Bachelor of Social Work and Masters of Social Work and have acquired over 8 years of experience within the field, with 5 years focusing on mental health. My journey started with personal challenges within my family dynamic that ultimately encouraged my passion for the mental health sector.
I have a vast amount of experience working within schools, community organizations, family health teams and hospitals. I’ve worked with individuals, families and couples from diverse ages and backgrounds. My personal and professional experience has contributed to my understanding of how people and their intersections can impact their well being.
As a therapist, I am a calm, patient, non-judgmental individual that will offer you the space to explore your emotions and internal questions. I centre cultural sensitivity, and awareness into my practice, as this is important to seeing people holistically.
I operate from a client-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed approach. This means that throughout our time together, I focus on understanding how your past experiences have shaped who you are and how you currently navigate the world, while collaboratively helping you use and rediscover the skills you have.
I help people unlearn habits that may no longer serve them and help them acquire new skills. I do this by using an eclectic approach to therapy to decide what method works best to achieve your goals. This can include using CBT, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, DBT or other approaches to manage anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and relational issues.
My ultimate goal is to be a catalyst in which I can help people gain the tools to help themselves. My hope is to encourage others to be active participants in changing their adverse life situations to become self-sufficient and empowered in their healing journeys.
